Troubleshooting Guide for Scanners

If a Scanner is not functioning, you should attempt to determine if the problem is related to hardware or connectivity issues.

 

Symptom

Course of Action

Scanner will not scan

Check to see if scanner is activated (switched On with On/Off switch).

 

Check to see if Wand is initialized (see EHS Wandpoll Program )

 

Check batteries

Scanner will not upload or download

Check for connectivity to Base (Light displays on base)

 

Check contacts on Scanner or Base, is there anything obstructing the connection?

Scanner is frozen (No laser beam, has good batteries)

To unfreeze: Take off bottom battery cap of scanner. Press and hold the Scan button and put battery cap back on. Scanner should beep 3 times and display "VX monitor mode". Remove battery cap again and press the Scan button. Replace cap and Scanner should display "Enter". The scanner may need re-initialized.

Scanner ID not assigned to docking Base/PC

Check the Scanner ID by scrolling using the Down arrow of the scanner to find the ID. Make sure ID is in the assigned list of Scanners in the EHS Wandpoll Program set up for the Base/PC. Go to View, then Only Scanners Set Up for this Computer.

Scanner displays "Scan"

Allows user to scan anything.

Initialization fails

Check in the EHS Wandpoll Program that the Operating System is PRO125D and that the Application has been selected.

Error with Wandpoll program

Check Scanner that it is set to correct Com Port.

 

If cycle has started, check to see if there is a blinking light on the base.

 

If corrections are made, close the program so that it refreshes.

To delete Scanner information

Press the F5 button, the push the Up arrow, then delete one line at a time.

Rebooting a Symbol Technology scanner

Remove the battery – Reinsert for a few minutes, then press 4 and 5 and Power button simultaneously then release.

Clear Scan N Count information

Press the F5 key, scanner will ask if the user wishes to delete data, then press the Y (Yes) key.

Scanner goes into Monitor Mode and the Readout may display as:

UX1 Monitor 1.35 ready, bps=9600

To take the scanner out of monitor mode do the following:

 

Take off battery cap

Press and hold scan button while putting the battery cap back on (you should hear 3 beeps)

Take the cap off

Release buttons

Put the cap back on

(Try this a few times. This process will also put the scanner in monitor mode if it is currently not in it)

 

If that doesn't work try taking batteries out and let sit for 5 minutes.

If LS4278 scanner freezes

To initialize the LS2478 Symbol Scanner,

  1. Pair scanner by scanning the barcode on the cradle
  2. Scan the 3 barcodes on page 13 of the LS2478 Quick Reference Guide in section Carriage Return/Line Feed.

 

Note: If any problems are encountered try unplugging the power cord from the base for 30 seconds and repeat the above steps.

Try unplugging the power cord from the base or try taking the batteries out for 30 seconds and reinserting them.

Setting Up a Scanner for initial use

Consult the Setting Up a Scanner for Use document.

Setting up a P470/P370 RF Scanner

In the Scanner Setup Program, go to the Scan N Go ® section and enter the Com Port and then enter the Area, either RSL or Location. Then the user may choose various Default selections based on that selection if so desired. May also choose an Inactivity Interval or to Bypass Rooms.

Then to configure the Scanner, scan all the barcodes under ADF Rules of the Product Reference Guide on pages 3-18 and 3-19. After doing so, scan the Pair barcode on the base for the scanner.
