Hot Keys

ALT Key

Hot keys are short cuts to help you navigate in the system. Look at the main menu bar in an application. If you press the ALT key, each of the options has one letter in its name underlined. If you want to choose an option from the main menu bar, press ALT + the underlined letter. For example, if you want to select File from the main menu bar, you hit ALT + F. This will open the menu screen for File.
In order to select an option in the menu screen, simply key in the letter underlined in the option you want. For example, in the File menu, if you would like to Exit, type in the letter X. You will then exit the application.
The ALT key can be used within an application to move from field to field. If one of the letters in the name of the field is underlined, press ALT + the underlined letter to move to that field.

CTRL Key

In addition to using the ALT key, you may use the CTRL key plus another key to directly access menu options without having to open up the menu. A few commonly used examples are listed below. The first few times you use a program, you may need to review the menu to check the key that will work with the CTRL key to achieve your desired result. Most of the CTRL + another key combinations will work in many programs.

Examples:
CTRL+ C Copy
CTRL+ N New
CTRL+ S   Save
CTRL+ V  Paste

CTRL+Del Delete
